Burquitlam artist Leanne Christie will demonstrate her technique on how to energize your paintings to make them lively and dynamic.
February 22nd, 7-9PM. at The Outlet, Leigh Square Community Arts Village in beautiful Downtown Port Coquitlam
There is dynamism in popular Vancouver artist Leanne Christie’s work. This Rhodes University Art School graduate is motivated to explore the secrets and depths of her medium. She is unafraid to take risks and constantly makes decisions in the process of oil painting. She believes that painting is an act of exertion and energy; it is a way to free oneself from limiting visual anchors and to “allow the ride”.
Her popular urban landscapes reflect this energized exploration of the medium. The strokes which are omitted or removed are often more important than those included. This awareness has led to the experimentation with brushstroke, composition and color without the retreat into abstraction…a combination of which leads to highly dynamic and distinctive paintings.

All Art Focus Demos are free and open to the public. They occur on the 4th Wednesday of every month in Leigh Square Community Arts Village.
About Art Focus Artists’ Association
Art Focus is a group of Tri-City area artists working in a variety of media, including pastel, watercolour, acrylic, oil, and mixed media. This group was formed in November, 1993.
The group meets three times a month to share ideas, to support and learn from each other, and from other artists in the community.
The Art Focus Artists’ Association meets ten months of the year, from September through to June. Much of our membership comes from the tri-city area, but there are no geographic boundaries. Our membership has a wide range of experience and interests that are shared, encouraged, and supported.
We meet three times a month at The Outlet in the Leigh Square Community Arts Village at 2253 Leigh Square in Port Coquitlam, BC at 7 PM. Access to the Outlet (old Port Coquitlam Post Office) is also available from McAllister Street right behind Port Coquitlam City Hall.
1st Wednesday is artists’ Workshop where we work together on projects or on our individual pieces.
2nd Wednesday is the business meeting where we plan shows and community participation, have coffee, and socialize.
4th Wednesday is demo night where professional artists demonstrate their skills for our group members as well as the public, free of charge.
The public is invited to the demos and there is a no charge to attend. We have an overhead mirror which makes it easy to see the artist work.

Here is what we do:
Every year we hold two major Art Events ‐ our May Day Art Show & Sale in the Spring and our Annual Exhibition & Sale in the Fall.
We participate in many Community Events‐ including Art in the Park, Mothers’ Day in Lions Park, Children’s May Day Banner Project, and Castle Park Canada Day Celebrations.
We actively encourage our members to display their work to the public on a regular basis. We offer them the opportunity to display within a Group Show context or as a Two-Person Show in Port Coquitlam City Hall and Martha’s Bakery and Restaurant.
We have demos by established artists who demonstrate their techniques in various media to our members. The public is also welcome to attend.
Some of our members teach in their studios.
