Port Coquitlam residents doing their spring cleaning will be able to drop off plastic bags, glass containers, electronics, small appliances and other recyclables at a single convenient location on Apr. 21.
Held during Earth Week, the city’s Recycling Drop-offs are part of its Sort it Right! program to help residents sort their waste properly.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on either Apr. 21 at Gates Park, Port Coquitlam residents can drop off a variety of recyclable items that normally have to go to a depot:
- Plastic bags
- Glass bottles and jars
- Lightbulbs, batteries and smoke detectors/alarms
- Styrofoam (white only – no popcorn foam)
- Printed paper, cardboard and packaging
- Household electronics such as computers and handheld devices
- Small appliances and tools including vacuums, scales, countertop appliances, hair dryers, fans, irons, power tools, sewing machines and typewriters
Renovation waste, household hazardous waste and large appliances will not be accepted. To find out how to dispose of these items, search the Sort it Right! tool at portcoquitlam.ca/sortitright.
The Recycling Drop-offs take place the same day as the city’s 10th annual City-wide Garage Sale, during which residents across the community hold garage sales to reduce waste by turning unwanted items into cash, helping others and the environment.
This year’s City-wide Garage Sale is Apr. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s free to take part, and those who sign up at www.portcoquitlam.ca/
The Recycling Drop-off at Gates Park on Apr. 21 will be located in the parking lot on Reeve Street between Atkins and Kelly Avenues (next to the City-wide Garage Sale).
